The FeuV (Feuerungsverordnung — German fire precautions regulation) (§ 4, Installing heat-producing appliances) stipulates: If a heat-producing appliance dependent on ambient air (e.g. gas-fired boiler, a firewood stove) and an extractor fan (e.g. extractor hood) are operated simultaneously, it must be ensured in a place of residence/house that no carbon monoxide is extracted from the heat-producing appliance. As soon as an extractor system is switched on, a vacuum is created in a closed room. The pressure must only be equalised via the flow of fresh air from the outside and not via the heat-producing appliance."
