4 of the 8 auto-tuning RJ45 ports (ports 1 to 4) on the switch support Power over Ethernet (PoE). These PoE ports are able to automatically detect PoE devices and supply IEEE802.3af Powered Devices (PDs). In this situation, the electric current is transported together with the data in a single cable. The device makes it possible to expand your network where there are no power lines or outlets and where you would like to operate devices such as access points, IP cameras or IP phones, etc.
Response to overload
The TL-SG1008P has a priority* function that helps protect the system when the system power is exceeded. If the total power consumption of the PoE PDs is greater than or equal to 53W, priorities are assigned among the PoE ports. The system then decides on the power distribution and shuts off the power supply at the port with the lowest priority.
Port priority function
*Priority (Port 1 > Port 2 > Port 3 > Port 4): This function is provided to protect the system if the PoE power is exceeded. If, for example, ports 1, 2 and 4 each use 15.4W (maximum power per port is 15.4 W), the total power is 46.2W (the PoE max LED is then red). If an additional PD with 10W is connected to port 3, the system shuts off port 4 to prevent the device becoming damaged. This means that 15.4 W can be consumed at port 1 and port 2, and 10 W at port 3. No power is output at port 4.
