The Magnastat system works by means of a permanent magnet and a ferro-magnetic temperature sensor. If the soldering tip is cold, the permanent magnet is tightened by the ferro-magnetic temperature sensor. In this state, the switch is closed and the heating is switched on. When the temperature sensor is approaching its Curie point, i.e. the selected tip temperature, its magnetic behaviour changes and the heating is switched off. If the tip cools slightly, the temperature sensor pulls again and the control circuit starts again. The choice of working temperature is achieved simply by changing the soldering tip with the temperature sensor attached to it. The Weller Longlife soldering tips include temperature ranges 260°C, 310°C, 370°C, 425°C and 480°C. The WTCP 51 is not suitable for ESD safe applications as the soldering iron is not anti-static.
