This sensor switches on your garden irrigation pump or the solenoid valve on when the soil is dry, and turns off when enough moisture is in the soil.
The measuring head is buried in the soil at the depth, where it is supposed to measure and is connected via a cable to the base unit. There is a 2-m cable included, but the sensor cable can be extended using a conventional 2-pin cable up to 20 m. The device is operated using a commercially available plug-in power supply (12 V/DC stabilized, > 130 mA, jack 3.5 mm). If the garden is to be watered only at certain times of day or days of the week, then plug the power supply into a commercially available timer and program this accordingly. If the soil moisture sensor gets power from the power supply unit, it will start to work.
Operating sequence:
After switching on the operating voltage, the soil moisture is measured. If the soil is too dry, the connected pump is switched on for 18 - 30 minutes. If the soil is sufficiently wet, the device goes into ''Pause'' mode for approximately 18 - 30 minutes and then makes a new measurement. This continues in an endless loop until the operating voltage is switched off.

Note: The electronics of the rain sensor reacts to the electrical conductivity of the water. Now we have found that there are areas where absolutely uncontaminated rainwater falls (distilled water). The sensor does not respond to it. The rain must have a slight amount of contamination (dust particles, smoke, etc. ), so that the water is electrically conductive and triggers the sensor. In 99% of the areas in Germany, the rainwater is conductive. If the sensor does not work for you, please install it so that the rain water runs off a small canopy or something else before the water comes into contact with the sensor. If the water falls directly from the cloud in its purest form on to the sensor and it is not triggered, then it is sufficient, if the water runs onto the sensor via a small board or from a canopy. Then the water will have absorbed enough contamination to be electrically conductive and to trigger the sensor. Of course, install the sensor at an angle so that the water runs of it.
This LED strip is perfect where colour fidelity is important.

The Teros 12 can retrofit the ELT-2 from Elsys and determines the volumetric water content (VWC) by measuring the dielectric constant of the medium using capacitance/frequency domain technology.
The ELT Advanced Soil Moisture Sensor determines volumetric water content (VWC) by measuring the dielectric constant of the medium using capacitance/frequency domain technology.
Its 70 MHz frequency minimizes salinity and structural effects, making this sensor accurate in almost any soil or soilless media.
Factory calibrations for mineral soils, potting soil, rock wool and perlite are included.
Note: This sensor requires a voltage of 4V and requires the ELT 5V Step-Up Module.

In addition to their reliability, ultrasonic sensors are particularly distinguished in industrial applications by their enormous versatility. They also solve particularly complex tasks when detecting objects or filling levels with millimeter precision, because their measuring principle functions reliably under almost all circumstances.
No other measurement method can be used so widely and successfully in so many different applications. The devices are extremely robust and therefore suitable for even the harshest conditions. The sensor surface cleans itself by vibration and is therefore not only resistant to contamination. The physical principle, the propagation of sound, works in virtually any environment, with a few exceptions.
