This distinguishes them from moles. Due to their high reproduction rate, the animals can become a plague in a very short time. You can combat them in their underground tunnels with this tunnel trap from Gardigo.

To insert the trap into the burrowing mouse tunnel, you first have to find it. Conveniently, the tunnel is often visible. If not, you can search with a probe (e.g. a thin metal rod). The tunnel probably runs where you first push the rod lightly into the ground and then with greater resistance. Now dig a hole into which the trap just fits. The ideal tool for this is a bulb planter, but a small spade also works well. Place the trap in the hole and align the openings with the tunnel. Now seal the gap between the trap and the soil with leaves or moss. You can also simply place a bucket over the trap. The main thing is to make sure that no air can get into the tunnel. This would irritate the vole. Tightening the trap is particularly easy: just pull the handle on the top upwards until it clicks into place. That's it! The trap snaps shut immediately when a rodent runs against the trigger pin. Without having to pull the trap out of the ground, you can tell from the position of the handle whether the trap has been triggered.
