Some displays require an additional backlight, such as transmissive displays, which include negative mode displays. On the other hand, other displays can be operated with a backlight but it is not essential, such as transflective displays. Positive mode displays can be transmissive or transflective. The reflective displays do not need lighting.
Reflective: reflective displays are operated without an additional backlight, as these reflect the incident light.
Transmissive: transmissive displays are translucent and therefore require an additional backlight.
Transflective: transflective displays are both reflective and transmissive, i.e. they can be operated both with and without a backlight.
Positive: the font colour is always black and the background is light (non-illuminated) on positive mode displays. With this display, the background can also be illuminated with a corresponding white or colour backlight.
Negative: negative mode displays require an additional backlight as this is responsible for the font colour. The background itself is black or blue, depending on the model.
For a better understanding of the differences, you can download a corresponding simulator program from the ''Datasheets & Downloads'' section, and use the program to simulate the display with and without a backlight.

EA TFT Panel - One family, same connector for all !
Who is not desperate about the different pin assignments and connectors of different TFT displays? That's the end of it for good! All TFT displays from the houseElectronic Assembly have an identical connection with 40 pins in 0.5mm pitch. Also the pin assignment itself is almost identical. A matching ZIFF connector is available as an accessory.
24 bit RGB interface, 3.3V power supply.
The displays have been specially developed for industrial applications and are therefore available on a long-term basis. The service life is 50,000 hours and the operating temperature range extends over a wide -20 to +70°C. Bright, high-quality LEDs are used for the background lighting.
Conventional LCD displays are increasingly reaching their limits when it comes to the operating temperature range. It is actually at low temperatures that the new OLED displays fully demonstrate their advantages:
• Full contrast down to -40°C
• Extremely fast response time at 10 µs
• No contrast adjustment necessary
• Unrestricted viewing angle
Thanks to its completely black background and active technology, the new OLED technology offers a contrast ratio of at least 2000:1.
The familiar 4-bit and 8-bit interface means the new OLED displays are very similar to the HD44780 standard.
• Operating temperature: -40 - +80°C
• Contrast 2000:1
Continuous operation without any problems
The new OLED displays from ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY can now be installed in industrial applications, too. Thanks to the new, patented OLED technology, the displays achieve a service life of 14,000 hours (half brightness) — even at the maximum operating temperature of +80°C.
At room temperature, the expected service life is 100,000 hours and longer.
All key character sets from around the world are integrated as standard:
• English, Japanese, European and Cyrillic.
Precisely in the cold, eastern European countries is where the new OLED displays offer the perfect solution: full functionality including Cyrillic characters. Rapid display is also possible, even at freezing temperatures of -40°C. Cold temperatures also do not affect the service life of the display.
5 V and 3.3 V
The new OLED displays are at home in both worlds: single-supply operation at 5 V and 3.3 V without needing to be adapted. The power consumption is between 15 - 50 mA (typ.), depending on the display size. The maximum brightness is achieved in 5-V operation.

Description
The new EA TFT009-81AINN LCD color display from Electronic Assembly is not even thumb-sized. On a surface of about one by three centimeters (diagonal 0.96 inch) there are nevertheless 80 by 160 pixels. With these, pin sharp graphic displays in colour or black and white can be realised. The powerful white LED backlight makes the display bright up to 500 cd/m². This makes it easy to read even in direct sunlight or under bright operating room lights. Since it is an IPS panel with all-angle color technology, contrasts and colors remain stable even at very oblique viewing angles. The integrated graphics controller ST7735S controls the display. Its SPI interface manages with four or three lines. This makes the mini-display particularly suitable for applications where every pin saved is important.
The display requires a supply voltage of 3.3 V and operates reliably in a temperature range between -20° Celsius and +70° Celsius. It can be operated both upright and in landscape format. Thanks to its small dimensions, it is particularly suitable as a display in wearables, but also in measuring probes, cordless drills and handheld electrical devices of all kinds. Combined with the touch surface, it becomes an informative switching element.

PLAYFULLY JUGGLING WITH OBJECTS
TFT displays have become indispensable in industrial and medical technology as well as in the private sector. They simplify operation and automatically upgrade the device. Small and large applications also benefit optically from the use of a
Colour displays. An attractive screen layout is important - what counts are clarity and modern design.
This is where the new concept of the new uniTFT displays from ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY comes in. You create surfaces like on a tablet or smartphone. A number of graphically appealing objects are available for this purpose, which can be adapted to individual requirements with the simplest of means. With the graphical editor you can easily create screen pages by drag-and-drop operation. The properties of the individual objects can be edited at any time and actions (e.g. for touch keys) can be created. A gentle appearance or lateral infiltration of objects creates an intuitive feeling of closeness and ease of operation for the user.
USB AND OTHER INTERFACES
The new EA uniTFT provides various interfaces to the outside world. A USB interface is available for flashing and debugging or for normal operation. There is also an SPI, RS-232 and I²C bus interface onBoard. If external devices or actuators are to be operated, this can be done via 3 further interfaces SPI, RS-232 and I²C bus declared as masters.
4 analog inputs and a PWM output enable the processing of analog signals, 16 digita I/O's (expandable up to 128) take over various control tasks. A video input provides images that can be displayed directly on the display or stored on the integrated micro SD card (up to 32 GB).
OBJECTS, VARIABLES, COMPUTATIONAL OPERATIONS
All imaginable objects can be moved individually and deleted again individually. Fonts are lossless, zoomable and rotatable, the character sets are...

The EA eDIP series is the world's first series of displays with integrated intelligence! In addition to various integrated, pixel-to-pixel fonts, the displays also offer a wide range of sophisticated graphics functions. The 5 V displays are ready for immediate operation. They are controlled via one of the three integrated interfaces RS-232, SPI or I²C. The displays are programmed via clear language graphics commands. Time-consuming programming of character sets and graphics routines are a thing of the past. The user-friendly display with touch panel dramatically cuts development time.
• Eight integrated fonts with font zoom from 2 up to 50 or 80 mm, can be rotated in 90-degree increments
